Biography
Percussionist, drummer, composer and teacher
Born in a green and feasting region of Portugal, I always got in touch with music and tried to understand its mystery, a mystery that seized everyone’s mind. From a very young age, it was only normal that I took lessons in piano, organ, marimba and other instruments.
Trained as a percussionist at the Professional School of Music in Espinho, Portugal, from the age of 14, the playing of classical music allowed me to arouse my ear with the beauty, to perceive the nuances and to develop my expressiveness.
Then I came to Switzerland and started playing piano and drums at the Montreux Conservatory, then at the EJMA in Lausanne. This is how I discovered jazz, which intrigued me with its complex grooves and its infinite possibilities. The freedom that this style of music offered was a revelation, as well as the full awareness needed to dive into it.
I then pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Drumming at HEMU in Lausanne where I also completed my Master’s degree in Music Performance and Composition.
During my studies, I studied different styles and techniques that allowed me to be versatile in playing and composing world music, its rhythms and its harmonies being an eternal source of discovery and inspiration.
During my career, I have had the opportunity to perform in different cultural projects from all over the world and to share my passion for music with the public.
Teaching is also very important to me, that’s the reason why, since 2012, I offer percussion and drums lessons in different music schools of Switzerland, as well as workshops.
